Corporate Maps

The power of multi-jurisdictional corporate groups (MJGs) largely stems from the complexity and opacity of their corporate ownership structures. By shifting intangible assets and profits across subsidiaries in different jurisdictions, multinationals can strategically allocate capital, debt, and intellectual property to significantly reduce their tax obligations. We refer to these intricate profit-shifting mechanisms as “tax-avoiding wealth chains.”

Using ORBIS data on global ownership structures, financial statements, and intellectual property distribution, we map and visualize the tax-avoiding wealth chains of major players in Big Tech and Big Pharma. Our research sheds light on the structural opacity of MJGs, providing a foundation for deeper analysis of the mechanisms that drive corporate tax avoidance and wealth concentration.
